Modern Magi

The past year has been full of epiphanies for me and I can’t help but think of those today, the liturgical Epiphany. In Greek, Epiphany means “to manifest” or “to show”. The Eastern Church calls this day Theophany, meaning “God shining forth” or “divine manifestation.” During my year of epiphanies, I’ve found a new calling, hurtled toward menopause (love it!), and learned how to have peace.

But the part that brings me to my knees is that I’ve been blessed to be surrounded with people whom I think of today as the Modern Magi. We are following a star; we are carrying our gifts. We are in service to make the divine manifest here, today. Epiphany is a feast of light and isn’t that light just what we need, especially now?

The Modern Magi are unlimited in number. We are everywhere. Are you one? What star are you following? What gifts are you carrying? What does your feast of light look like?
