Calling All Superwomen!

September 6, 2010 · 1 comment

As I write this on Labor Day, I’m thinking of all the ways that women labor. We give birth, we stay up all night with sick kids, we juggle work with teacher meetings, we take meals to friends in crisis, and we volunteer to organize the church yard sale. Men, you work hard, too; I’m not knocking’ ya. But ladies, you take the cake – right after you bake it. If I gave you twenty minutes, a rollerball pen and a sheet of paper, I’d bet you could fill it, front and back, with to-do list items.

If you started laughing a little maniacally at the idea of twenty uninterrupted minutes, keep reading.

Why should you consider adding anything to that list? Because it could change the way you approach that never-ending list forever. My friend and mentor, Michele Woodward, is coming to Atlanta as part of her book tour for her new book, I Am Not Superwoman: Further Essays on Happier Living. I rarely use my blog to invite people to something specific but this is something I believe in. Michele has helped me grow my business and she has helped me get real, very real, with my priorities while having lots of laughs in the process.

I didn’t think I could feel successful if I wasn’t trying to meet everyone’s expectations. Michele helped me turn that around and “create a new yardstick” for measuring success. The best part: it’s been a lasting change. We’ve all felt the snapback effect of trying to apply someone else’s personal development ideas. Michele hits a much deeper note that makes it feel natural to keep humming the tune.

Here’s how Michele puts it:

The whole point of I Am Not Superwoman is that it’s great to not have to appear to be perfect. It’s great to kind of revel in your imperfection because that is really where creativity lies, and that’s really where openness is, and that’s where the promise of real growth is.

I was honored when she asked me to co-host an “I Am Not Superwoman” workshop with her to help other women get real and let go of their superwoman tendencies. We would love for you to join us. The event is Friday, September 24, from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm at the gracious Druid Hills Golf Club in the historic Druid Hills neighborhood on the east side of Atlanta. A yummy lunch and a copy of Michele’s book is included in your registration fee of $179. Space is limited so please don’t hesitate if you’re ready to try a new yardstick of your own.

Click here for more details and to register for  “I Am Not Superwoman” in Atlanta on Friday, September 24, 2010.
Registration closes Tuesday, September 21.

Just think what you could really do if you weren’t trying to do everything perfectly!

Laurie, I am really looking forward to leading this event with you. You certainly have your Superwoman tendencies… and that’s precisely what I love about you. :-) Also looking forward to meeting great Atlanteans and helping everyone get comfortable, centered and happy.

Gonna be fun!

– Michele
